Freelance editor (part-time, remote) in oceanography/marine science

Start date: September 2024

Duration: Approximately 2.5 months

Your availability: 10-20h per week

The role: To review and perform English language corrections of technical documents in oceanography. Topics include: Sea level, ocean colour, sea-surface temperature, sea ice, winds, waves, and biogeochemical modelling, with the majority of documents focused on European Seas (Arctic, Baltic, North, Med, and Black Seas as well as the Eastern Atlantic from the Irish Sea to the Bay of Biscay).

The person: The ideal candidate would have

  • Science background in oceanography (or closely related science) (PhD)
  • Knowledge and understanding of earth observation and in-situ observation products, specifically familiarity with satellite observations and operational oceanographic and/or forecasting systems (preferably in a European context) - please provide specific examples in your cover letter
  • Must be an EU national or from an associated state (CH, NO, UK) (hiring condition set by our client)
  • Very good level of English (C1/C2)
  • Good organisational skills with an ability to respond to client requests in a prompt and professional manner
  • Proficiency in scientific writing
  • Keen eye for detail
  • Ability to work toward deadlines
  • Previous experience in editing/reviewing of scientific papers
  • Good working knowledge of (and access to) MS Word

You should be comfortable to work on your own and possess your own office space/computer.

The work would be tied to a specific project with a competitive remuneration. After the end of the project, there would be the possibility to continue working as freelance editor at XpertScientific reviewing scientific manuscripts.
